2020 Virtual Festival FAQs

Why is the Festival virtual this year?

On March 17, 2020 the Government of Ontario issued an executive emergency order in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The provincial emergency order has been extended through September 22 at the time of this writing.

These orders have prohibited the operations of non-essential businesses and services, limited the size of social and group gatherings, and have enforced physical distancing and face covering measures between individuals.

With the closure of non-essential tourism businesses earlier in the spring, and with the prohibition of large events, festivals and gatherings, the tourism, travel and event industry in the province has been impacted first and most significantly within Ontario.

These factors have impacted the way in which the Ball’s Falls Thanksgiving Festival can be delivered this year. In its 46th year, and after a record-breaking Festival in 2019, the NPCA worked through the summer to develop a modified festival that brings together some of the favourite elements of this annual tradition combining both virtual and in-person features.

The largest draw to the Festival in recent years has been the craft artisan shopping and unique food and craft beverage experience. We know that the conventional shopping and dining experience cannot be delivered safely in person this year, so we have brought the incredible shopping experience online to thanksgivingfestival.ca – where you can shop from some of your favourite Festival vendors, and check out new vendors too!

What is available in-person over the Thanksgiving weekend?

We will still be delivering your favourite heritage tours through the historical village at Ball’s Falls, complete with working demonstrations in the Grist Mill, Cabin and Blacksmith shop!

Take a step back in time with us on a heritage tour of Glen Elgin, as it would have been operating in the 1800s! Purchase your tickets in advance at thanksgivingfestival.ca

Tours run from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm, and are about one hour in length. They will be conducted in small groups of 10 participants. Each person will conduct a health screening upon arrival.

Please do not attend if you or a member of your group is feeling ill or has been in contact with a known or presumptive case of COVID-19.

What does Virtual Festival mean?

Shop from incredible local food and craft vendors, as well as local farmers and producers online at thanksgivingfestival.ca!

What is Local Line and how does it work?

NPCA is working with Local Line, an Ontario-based e-commerce platform that helps connect farmers, markets and food hubs to local customers!

Our vendors are sharing their products through the Local line platform, found at thanksgivingfestival.ca. When you shop at the store, you will create a customer account (or guest account) before your checkout.

If I purchase a product in the virtual store, where do I pick up?

Before you complete your online purchase, you will have the option to select the date and time you will pick up your items, or select delivery.

All purchases will be picked up over the Thanksgiving weekend (Friday, October 9 – Monday, October 12) at the Centre for Conservation at Ball’s Falls Conservation Area (3292 Sixth Avenue, Lincoln, ON, L0R 1S0)

Customers must arrive for pickup on their selected day and during their selected timeframe and have their Order ID and receipt to demonstrate proof of purchase

Can my purchases be delivered and if so, at what cost?

All customers residing within the Niagara Peninsula Watershed (Niagara Region, City of Hamilton and Haldimand) have the option to select delivery.

A flat delivery fee of $5 is applied upon checkout. Deliveries will be taking place from Saturday, October 10-Tuesday, October 13.

Can I still come to Ball’s Falls during Thanksgiving Weekend?

Yes, day use visitors are welcome at Ball’s Falls over the course of the weekend.

Regular day use admission fees apply. Heritage building tours are available only with the purchase of a Heritage Tour ticket (can be purchased instead of day use admission, not in addition to day use admission fees).

What does my $10 Heritage Tour ticket include?

Your Tour Ticket includes:

    • Immersive and interactive one-hour guided tour through the heritage village, live demonstrations by historical interpreters and the opportunity to try some historical activities and treats
    • Interactive scavenger hunt and family activities
    • Accessible parking at Ball’s Falls Conservation Area
    • Access to hiking trails at Ball’s Falls on the day of your tour

Note: Your tour fee goes towards the preservation of cultural heritage features and buildings at Ball’s Falls Conservation Area.

What do I do when I arrive to Ball’s Falls for my tour?

At the time of purchase, you will receive instructions via email for what to do on the day of your tour.

You will receive a reminder via email one day before your tour is scheduled. Parking for tour participants is in an alternative location from the Centre for Conservation. Attendees must arrive with their Order ID and proof of purchase.
